Start Reading Phonics 1.03 (m d g o) (Phonic Ebooks: Sounds Made Easy (Children's Start Reading Books Level 1)) Review

Start Reading Phonics 1.03 (m d g o) (Phonic Ebooks: Sounds Made Easy (Children's Start Reading Books Level 1)) Overview

A straightforward way to start your child reading, giving you the information and resources to teach your child the first stepping stones in reading. As with speaking, children learn to read starting with a single word then building up to reading sentences and eventually reading a story. As sounds are introduced gradually, only a limited number of words are available for children to decode (read using phonics).

The Start Reading books Level 1 starts with children reading one to two words per page (Start Reading 1.01) to eventually reading stories (Start Reading 1.13 and 1.14). The first books 1.01 to 1.12 are NOT STORY BOOKS. Each page stands alone to make starting to read easier. Children should not be expected to read the whole book at once. You can stop when your child needs to and start on that page some other time. You have to use your own judgement about how much your child can do. Remember your child needs praise for their effort, as well as their achievement.

PHONICS
You can use this book to teach your child phonics as they are introduced gradually. Due to its use of phonics this book is more accessible at an earlier age than other “reading series” that rely heavily on sight words. Phonics is taught before all other reading strategies in schools and these books follow the same system.

BOOKS in LEVEL 1
Level 1 is for children who have learnt or are starting to learn their basic phonics (a-z). Schools expect children to know all these sounds (Introduced in Level 1) before they start school at age 5. For more Level 1 books search Amazon for: “Start Reading Phonics Level 1”.

Level 1 introduces phonics and “Tricky” words in this order:
Book 01 (s a t p i n) Book 02 (s a t p i n) Tricky words (a, the)
Book 03 (m d g o) Book 04 (m d g o) Tricky words (I, I’m, go)
Book 05 (c k e u) Book 06 (c k e u) Tricky words (no, to)
Book 07 (r h b f) Book 08 (r h b f) Tricky words (he, she)

Book 13: A simple story about a crocodile, phonics (a-z) practice (tricky word: Level 1 practice)
Book 14: A simple story about an ant, phonics (a-z) practice (tricky word: Level 1 practice)

TRICKY WORDS (SIGHT WORDS)
“Tricky” (sight) words – which children need to, learn to recognise as whole words. These are words that cannot be broken down into phonics at this stage of a child’s learning. “Tricky” (sight) words are introduced gradually in every other book within this level. This helps children to focus on the phonics being used in the first book then the second book reinforces the phonics and introduces a few “Tricky” words. This continues throughout level 1, building children’s knowledge gradually so that children can retain it.
